Hilltripe and Karen Villages

Taking the Jeep at 9 o clock in the morning out to the hills, while its raining all the way through, we stopped first at the Mhok Fha waterfall. There we could take a quick shower and then heading towards the villages. First of all we started walking for about 3 hours to Baan Mae Jog, where we did stayed over night. Its a Bamboo hut on a little creek, which turned out to be a smashing river at night after hours of rain. Over there we did cook some dinner in Thai style, therefore green curry and local curry, which was delicious and pretty spicy.
We went to sleep very early, since we already had a rough day walking through the jungle in this weather, it must have been at least 40 degree and humid as hell. I suffered hard that night, so I got quite a fever and -diarrhea-, so I was quite weak on the following day.
Some things turned out to be very useful in the jungle, some of them I realized I forgot them because I could have needed some. Starting at the first day heading to the Karen Villages we tried to learn some Karen, which is quite different compared to thai, but equally hard to learn.
In thai you will greet with sawatt dii, ka. in Karen you will say amushawa. Thank you in thai means korp kun, ka - in Karen you will say Kambrie.

Walking through the jungle and climbing slippery paths through the hills was quite a big and impressive experience, probably i would have liked it more if i wouldn't have been sick so much at the first day. Usually I can take a lot before I get sick, in this case I withdrew facing a temperature difference of about 10 degree from australia to thailand, then a humidity, jet-lag, food and maybe even a cold i brought already from australia. Whatever it was, its been gone after that one day at all. The broken rip must have been healed at this time as well.

After walking and walking and walking to the elephant camp, we finally got a ride on those gentle animals. They are quite huge and peaceful. During the whole ride I was really worried about the stability of those paths and the basket we were sitting in. IT was really impressive and again I spend a lot of time wondering around. Honestly I didn't really knew what was going on with me. The last weeks so many things did happen, I wouldn't even dare to dream of. Just one week ago I have been swimming with sharks and now I was sitting there and riding an elephant in the jungle of thailand... it was crazy.
After that ride we walked again and arrived at Pa Khao Laam, where Karen children go to school and people live in bamboo huts as well. Again we did cook and went to bed early.

In the next morning we were about taking the bamboo raft for at least 3 to 4 hours and got pretty wet on that ride. It was pretty cool as well, beside that you are getting soaked for about 3 hours. We got lunch at Sob-Kai, which was a Shan Village, another region in the hills.
After a few days out in the jungle we finally got back to civilization with another rough jeep ride through the mountains. well deserved! But right after another short goodnight sleep and a half day in Chiang Mai we were about to head towards bangkok taking the night train. I did liked the night train a lot, because it was perfect for my size.
